NEW ZEALAND TROOPS
SETTLING DOWN IN CAMP
GIVEN ROUSING WELCOME IN SUEZ “ALL HAD THE VOYAGE OF THEIR LIVES” (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) SLEZ, February 13 The first party of the New Zealand troops, after disembarkation at Suez, reached camp late yesterday afternoon. They were very cheerful and glad the journey had ended. The bands of two battalions played them into the newlyconstructed township of camouflaged tents and wooden huts. ISinety per cent of the New Zealanders had never before been outside their native land. Hot meals, ale and lea were awaiting them in the camp, and no effort was spared to make them comfortable. Paliasses are stuffed with Egyptian cotton instead of straw. The men are already drawing their equipment and clothing, and training will begin in earnest next week. The townspeople of Suez gave the troops a rousing welcome as they marched through beflagged streets. The New Zealanders are spending their first night in Egypt after a day full of excitement. Several said they had all had the voyage of their lives. The troops were in a hilarious mood on their arrival.
