GOOD SPRINT FIELD

ORELIO LOOKS THE PART CHANCES OF KATHBELLA LORNACRE AND FOOTLOOSE It is a fine field of sprint talent and the impressive success of Kathbella on the concluding day of the Auckland summer meeting over a mile with 8.7 points to her making a bold bid for sprint supremacy at the meeting. Maori Song, a solid performer when attuned, has been off the scene for a spell but he has been moving along freely in his work of late and is not without prospects although he may be all the better for a race or two. Orwere has run some of his best races at Te Rapa and, improved by racing at Matamata, where he beat all but Little Artist, he should rise to a forward effort this week. Royal Bachelor, who won at Avondale in November, is a rather unreliable customer and must accordingly be taken on trust and the better proposition, in the event of the track being firm on Saturday, may be Lornacre._ who is bearing a healthy appearance just now. He won sty-

lishly on the first day at Thames when he found a track to suit his style of galloping. Footloose is in form. He won the Flying handicap (7 furlongs) at Hawera last week and earlier at Stratford scored a runaway success in sprint company on New Year’s Day. Orclio’s Credentials The threc-year-old Limond colt, Orelio, is in great form at present and at the recent mid-summer meeting at Ellerslie achieved the unusual feat of winning the Wynyard Plate and Hauraki Plate on the respective days, the former distance being 7 furlongs and the latter a mile. He is a class colt and appeals as being the hardest to beat here. Sunola was in good form at the Auckland Christmas meeting but has since failed in soft going and unless the track is reasonably firm on Saturday he may not be seen to best advantage. Beseige has been working attractively at Te Awamutu, but Tosh, though he looks in good condition, will have to show improved form to take a hand in the decision. Foxmond won in hack company at the November meeting here but the better proposition may be Lexden, who scored in sprint company at the Ashhurst meeting last month. He has previously performed prominently at Te Rapa. Bronze Moth, Trilliarch (a surprise winner on the latter day at Rotorua), Foxsen and Noitaro are improvers not without prospects in a race in which the public may prefer the credentials of Orelio, Kathbella, Footloose and Lornacre. WEIGHT CORRECTION TRIG STATION 9.10 Trig Station has been assessed at 9.10 and not at 8.10 as appeared originally. BAY OF PLENTY MEETING ENTRIES CLOSE FRIDAY Nominations for all events of the Bay of Plenty Racing Club’s Autumn meeting at Tauranga on March 9 and 11 close on Friday at 5 p.m. with Messrs Blomfield and Co., Auckland, and at 8 p.m. with the secretary (Mr S. G. Willcock), Tauranga. An attractive programme has been arranged, the big race on the first day, the Tauranga Cup (1J miles) being worth £SOO and the sprint, the Flying Handicap, £250. On the latter day the Herries Memorial Handicap will carry a stake of £3OO and the sprint event £2OO. The programme is a most comprehensive one and should appeal to owners throughout the Waikato.
