MENACE TO HOLLAND FLOOD STOPS OFFENSIVE RELIEF FOR BRITISH TROOPS

Copyright) LONDON, Feb 11 Two crack German army corps, totalling six divisions, which were concentrated at Aachen, near the Belgian frontier, departed last week and have been replaced by two newly-formed corps of Austrian units, which are of the same strength but are rated third class, says the Brussels correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. Jt is now revealed that ColonelGeneral von Brauchitsch, the German commander-in-chief, personally inspected the frontier districts of Southern Holland and northern Belgium by air on November 10, and decided the flood conditions were unfavourable for an offensive. Despatches from the Western Front report that the battle lines are again freezing hard. All is quiet except for artillery activity west of the Voges. The French night communique reported local activity by patrols and artillery. Tne British regiments in the front line are being given periodical relief. A battalion of the Cameron Highlanders which arrived behind the lines for a short rest excited great interest and enthusiasm in the ’ullages.
