NEW ZEALANDERS MESSAGE FROM THE KING
TRADITIONS WILL BE UPHELD TROOPS IN GOOD HEALTH AND SPIRITS TAKE UP QUARTERS IN MODERN CAMP New Zealand s first echelon of troops arrived safely in Egypt. They made the journey in a fleet of large liners under a powerful escort of warships. The men were reported to be in excellent health and spirits. The first men to enter the port were the New Zealanders. As soon as they arrived they received the following message from the King:— “ I know well that the splendid traditions of the past will he worthily upheld by you who have left your homes to fight for the cause which the Empire has made its own.” His Majesty concluded by extending to the troops bis best wishes. The force is the biggest that has yet crossed the ocean as a unit. At one point they and the Canadians were on the sea together, a splendid tribute to Empire unity.
