NO CLASSES HELD TODAY STANDARDS BACK TOMORROW Owing to renovation work at the Hamilton East School grounds, the school was closed throughout today to allow the contractors to make unimpeded progress with the work An investigation of the position was made by Mr S. B. Sims, a member of the Auckland Education Board, and Mr H. M. Baker, chairman of the school committee, at midday. when thev met the ro tra tors to see if the work *ere « jcntly advanced to allow the children to attend the sthool tomorrow It was decided that the children in the prinimers would have to have another holiday tomorrow, but that the standards would resume at 9 a.m. as usual. A further decision will be made by the committee tomorrow. Taxation In Australia Taxation of the Australian Commonwealth and States together reached a total of £124,565.180 in the last financial year. Of this sum the Commonwealth collected £74.036.899, and the States £50,528.281. Since 1929 the total has increased by £35.700.000. The total taxation per head of population durirg the past 10 years moved up from £l3 19s lid to £l7 19s 7d.
