LARGE ENTRY

DEMAND FOR EWES

SHEEP AT MORRINSVILLE IMPROVED VALUES REALISED Although store sheep were forward in record numbers at the Morrinsville sale yesterday, competition was keen and values in most instances showed an improvement on those realised at the same centre last week. Altogether, 30,000 sheep were on offer, the largest entry in the Waikato for many years, while the buying bench was the largest seen lor some time. The entry of sheep consisted mainly of breeding ewes from East Coast and southern centres. The market for ewes was right through more animated than the rather quiet sale of last week and the majority of vendors obtained better prices. Good quality ewes were in keen request, while aged sorts sold particularly well. For a line of 320 tv/o-tooths from the Pauariki station buyers gave 34s sd, while a line of 279 from Dannevirke sold to the bid of 32s 6d. On behalf of the Mangatarata station a line of 270 was auctioned at 30s 6d. Market For Five-year-olds Five year-olds were available in large numbers, the best of these usually selling from 23s 9d to 24s 6d, others from 20s to 22s 9d, and less attractive descriptions from 17s to 19s 9d. Four-year-olds made from 23s 9d to 26s 3d, while lines of mixed aged ewes changed hands from 18s 8d to 255. Lots of 4 and 5-year-olds were knocked down from 20s Id to 25s 3d. A large entry of store lambs was in keen request and values were fully firm. A light entry of fat cattle sold freely at unchanged quotations, while boners often made slightly improved rates. In the fat pig section, competition was very keen for a full average yarding and prices showed a further improvement. Baconers were sold to 89s, the highest figure so far realised this year. Store pigs, however, were not so ready of sale and tended easier. AUCTIONEERS’ QUOTATIONS The auctioneers quote as follows: Dalgety and Company, Ltd. Cattlu: Fat I’.A. and Hendrows. £6 ...
