WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
NAWTON-ROTOKAURI The February meeting of the Nawton-Rotokauri Women's Institute took place in the hall, when Mrs Vane presided over a good attendance of members. A special afternoon was arranged for Wednesday, February 21, when Miss R. Stephenson, of Hamilton, will attend to demonstrate folk dancing. It was decided that the annual picnic would take place at Rotorua on Wednesday, February 28, when members will travel by bus. Further details will be arranged at the next meeting. It was made known that the nominations for the committee would close on February 21. The secretary was instructed to write to two members who were away through illness.
The motto was very ably taken by Mrs Stevenson. A demonstration on the use of dried tea leaves was described by Mrs Faville, who exhibited an article decorated with them. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Faville.
Competitions were won by Mrs Hewitt and Mrs Mangnall. The monthly competitions resulted as follows:—Best dahlia bloom, Mrs Curtis 1, Mrs Glover and Mrs Hewitt (equal), 2; plain sewing, Mrs McKenzie 1, Mrs Glover, 2. At the next meeting the points prizes will be presented. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Frost, Ranesfield and Rollinson. The hostesses for next month will be the members of the outgoing committee.
