Versatile “Effects” Man Pinto Colvig, human sound effects library, claims that he can produce approximately 500 different types of sound with his mouth. The sounds range from an angry bull elephant to a barking dog. Colvig is assisting in the scoring of “Gulliver’s Travels.” The “Beau Geste” Cast Gary Cooper, in a role greater than any of his great roles, Ray Milland, in the most vigourous characterisation he has ever brought to the screen, and Robert Preston, form a magnificent starring trio for “Beau Geste,” Paramount’s rousing new picturisation of the story of three gallant brothers in the French Foreign Legion. Cooper has portrayed an adventurer many times but his role in “Beau Geste” gives him greater scope than his previous parts. Cooper, cf course, is cast in the title role, as ‘Beau’, eldest of the three “Geste” brothers. Milland, gets a bigger and better chance to prove his calibre as ‘John’, and Preston, is the youngest of the Geste brothers, ‘Digby.” Brian Donlevy appears as the brutal half-mad Sergeant, “Markoff” and his brilliant portrayal is even superior to his vigourous role in “Union Pacific.” Susan Hayward, is the romantic lead opposite Ray Milland and J. Carol Naish, one of Hollywood’s brilliant character actors, this time impersonating the fear-crazed “Rasinoff” Russian outcast.
