Milk Vendor’s Dilemma

Milk vendors in Christchurch and adjoining districts have been given one month to reorganise distribution to effect petrol savings demanded by the Oil Fuel Regulations. When the rationing of petrol was reintroduced at the beginning of the month vendors with trucks had their petrol allocation in October and November automatically reduced by one-third, while vendors with cars were reduced to a maximum of 30 gallons a month. The local advisory committee appointed by the Oil Fuel Conti oiler has since increased the allocation to vendors with trucks to fourfifths of the October-November allocation. The committee has stipulated that this increased allowance is made for February only. This means that vendors unable to revert to horse-drawn vehicles will be compelled to adopt a zoning system for the distribution of milk in the city and suburbs.
