Germany admits the loss ol 42 ships of 236,957 tons, of which 141,525 tons have been scuttled, 13,106 tons confiscated in enemy harbours and 82,326 tons captured. The British Admiralty controverts the German claims, and says that to February 4, 274 merchant ships were lost, cf which 143 were British, the tonnage being 505,998, 14 French snips 7u.00j tons, and 117 neutral shins oi tons. The German Navy has not captured any ninish ur rreach snips, so the German figures must apply entirely to neutrals.
