Discussing motherhood in a lecture, Professor James once said: “A teacher asked a boy this question in fractions: ‘Suppose that your mother baked an apple pie, and there were seven of you—the parents and five children. What part of the pie would you get for your portion?’ “ ‘A sixth,’ answered the boy. “ ‘But there are seven of you,’ said the teacher. ‘Don’t you know anything about fractions?’ “ ‘Yes,’ said the boy, T know about i fractions, but I also know about < mothers, too. Mother would say she j didn’t want any pie.’ ” Men’s suits and children’s school clothes, especially serge uniforms, I often become shiny in patches j through rubbing against desks and J forms. This glaze may be removed ( if the surface of the cloth is well 1 rubbea with slices of raw potato or j sponged with the water in which ivy | leaves have been boiled.
