All-Star Cast of Top Comics In Roach Film
Joan Bennett, again appearing as a dark-tressed glamour girl, and Adolphe Menjou, appearing as a screwy newspaperman, head the imposing cast of “The Housekeeper’s Daughter,” Hal Roach's hilarious screen comedy romance, filmed from the novel of the same name by Donald Henderson Clarke. The supporting cast includes such prominent players as John Hubbard, William Gargan, George E. Stone, Peggy Wood, Donald Meek. Marc Lawrence, Lilian Bond and Victor Mature. The story of “The Housekeeper's Daughter” concerns the mad and merry antics of a group of amateur and professional sleuths who try to solve the mysterious murder of Gladys Fontaine, a Broadway play girl, in the swanky town house of the socially prominent Randall family. In this hilarious group, whose various members are working at cross purposes, are the beautiful and alluring housekeeper's daughter, the scion of the Randall family, two screwy newspapermen, a mob of crazy gangsters and a psychopathic homicide. A smash climax is provided when Adolphe Menjou, as the crack newshound, solves the murder after he has terrorised a gang of underworld hoodlums in a burst of firecracker glory.
