New Industry in Queensland An important new primary industry may be started in Queensland soon. A Sydney company with a nominal capital of £20,000 is planning the production of ramie fibre on a large scale in North Queensland. It has secured an option over 23,000 acres of land in the Ingham district, which has been found to be the most suitable for growing ramie. Ramie is used for the manufacture of all classes of textiles, but hitherto its production has been confined to cheap-labour countries because hand methods of treatments have been necessary. Now machinery has been invented which, it is claimed, will enable ramie to be produced just as cheaply in Australia.
