WOOL AT DUNEDIN MERINO LOTS BRING 19^d RESULT OF APPRAISAL (By Telegraph.—Press Association) DUNEDIN, Thursday Appraisement in connection with the Imperial wool purchase scheme • have been proceeding since Monday, j and the final catalogues were dealt with to-day. The combined brokers brought forward catalogues amounting to 21,431 bales, and within a few days it is expected that full instrucj tions will be issued for wools which | have to be shipped to the United Kingdom. Local mills have also been ; busy selecting their requirements j and have been allocating their quanj tities. ! The clip, on the whole, although ! for the most part of good colour, was j somewhat patchy and was much j lighter in condition than was the case j last year. A fair proportion of the j wool showed signs of severe weathj ering, but the bulk of the clip exI hibited better quality than was gen- | erally anticipated. High country ; wool showed the effect of the severe j winter with its unusual snows, and the staple was weaker and lacked its ; usual length. Crossbred hoggets from j the south, where the sheep were well wintered, were sound and of good ! colour, whereas in other districts fibre j was inclined to show tenderness, j The general get-up of the clips was i satisfactory, but some growers are : still leaving fleece wool unskirted, i In these cases the brokers found it necessary to unroll the fleeces and skirt in order that the various types ! could be priced according to , schedule. J In Merinos, the Puketoi clip again j commanded top price, 19|d, whicn I was paid for three lots. Some very | attractive lines of super nine halfi breds were offered, one four-bale lot : carrying the brand TC/Strathclyde being appraised at 19£d, top price for hallbred in New Zealand. : The second appraisement for Dunedin is listed for January, 1940.
