MODEL CLAUSES

WORK OF TOWN PLANNING (By TelegTaph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON. Thursday Regret that because of the war it had not been possible to bring down legislation to help the work of town planning, both by the board and by local bodies, was expressed by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, in an address at a meeting of the Town Planning Board. In his absence at a meeting of the Cabinet, Mr Parry’s address was read by the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs, Mr J. W. Heenan. Until the war clouds rolled away, the Minister said, he could only urge that the board use to the fullest extent the machinery of the present legislation and make such progress in town planning as was possible in the circumstances. “Since the board last met, model clauses have been released,” said the Minister. “These clauses are designed to serve as a guide to local authorities in preparation of their town-planning schemes. I think the release of these clauses has been a major factor in speeding up the preparation of schemes and should produce much greater results soon. “Though the clauses have been out only a comparatively short time, such progress has been made that today there are four schemes before the board for provisional approval. I think this must be a record.”
