Grade IV.—Distinction: Avis Pennell. Pass: Maureen Casey. Grade V.—Distinction: Marjorie Mary | Olsen. Credit: Joyce Lela Cowley. RED CROSS COMMITTEES ! The Mayor, Mr R. Coulter, presided over | an attendance or 7u at a meeting of the I Te Aroha branch of the Red Cross Society. Messrs D. McNab, W. Cullen and J. L. ! Otter were elected members of a buying committee to supervise the purchase of materials, Including wool and cloth. Dr. b. T. Marlin reported living arranged for People’s Theatre players to visit Te Aroha on November 11 to stage Clifford Odets’ play, “Till the Day I Die.” A concert committee composed or Messrs K. 11. Vincent, P. Gilchrist, H. C. Kennedy and J. Wyatt was elected. The following were elected a social committee: Mesdames Curran, Hunger, Hepburn and G. Gilchrist. USE OF POLO GROUND The cricket and polo clubs have conferred on the subject or a concrete cricket pitch being laid down on the Te Arona sports Domain, and an arrangement has been arrived at whereby a grass pitch with a matting cover will fill the position. Playing Saturdays are to be allocated on an equal basis. NEW YEAR CARNIVAL At a public meeting at Te Aroha It was decided to hold the New Year Ca nival as usual. The following officers were elected:—Patron, the Mayor, Mr R. Coulter; president. Mr W. C. Kennedy; hon. secretary, Mrs G. Lloyd; committee, Messrs L. J. Flatt, W. Cullen. F. Knight. C. O’Brien, E. V. Fitzpatrick, H. Robertson, R. W. Stevens, F. Montague, R. Richards, 11. C. Kennedy, K. Pilkington, P. PiJkington, F. Hall, E. C. Snellmg, and representatives or the Borough Council and Chamber of Commerce. Messrs O’Brien, Knight, Fitzpatrick and Richards were appointed to canvass the town for subscriptions.
