“A RUNAWAY GIRL”

SUCCESS OF SEASON ANOTHER LARGE AUDIENCE *‘A Runaway Girl,” the Hamilton Operatic Society’s 1939 production, continues its merry way at the Theatre Royal. Last night, the fourth of the season, there was another large audience, and the entertaining production was much enjoyed. It is now right into its swing, and all concerned are giving of their best, with the result that the audience, reacting to the general enthusiasm, enjoys itself tremendously. There are some very entertaining vocal and dance numbers, including the following:— Opening chorus, “Breathe Soft, Wind of the South”; song, and chorus of Convent Girls, “The Sly Cigarette,” Winifred Gray (the runaway girl); song, “Seagirt Land of My Home,” Leonello; chorus, “The Convent Bells”; chorus, “Bright and Blue Our Sunny Skies”; song and dance, “Two Hearts in Waltz-time,” Dorothy and Bobby; song, "Not the Sort of Girl I Care About,” Guy Stanley; song and chorus, "The Singing Girl,” Winifred; duet, "No One in the World Like You,” Winifred and Guy; “Courier Duet,” Alice and Flipper; concerted number, “Follow the Man from Cook’s,” Flipper and principals; duet, “Barcelona,” Carmenita and Tamarind; Finale, "To Venice.” Chorus, “In Venice When Fetes Are in Swing”; song and chorus, "Beautiful Venice,” Winifred; song and chorus, “You Know,” Paloni and chorus; song (Dorothy) and chorus, assisted by members of the Regimental & Municipal Band, “Soldiers in the Park”; dance duo, Bernice Choat and Ken. Martin; carnival chorus, “Welcome to the Water Fete”; song and chorus, “Comrades All,” Leonello; dances, “Boomps-a-Daisy” and “The Lambeth Walk,” company; song and chorus, “The Boy Guessed Right,” Winifred: duet, "The Piccaninnies,” Alice and Flipper; song, "Society,” Carmenita; finale, principals and chorus. One of the performers, Mr Stanley Carroll, who took the part of Signor Paloni, was taken ill during the performance last night and was rushed to hospital. The producer, Mrs E. Mcßeath, stepped into the breach, and “carried on” successfully for the rest of the evening. The role will be filled, by an understudy, Mr John Dowell, for the rest of tne season. Further Performances The successful production will oe staged again tonight, also tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night.
