EXHIBITION ATTRACTIONS

BLAZE OF LIGHT The total electrical load for the Dunedin Exhibition in 1934-25 was 1200 kilowatts. An estimate of the peak load for the Centennial Exhibition is more than 15,000 kilowatts, which gives some indication of the vast amount of electrical wiring and equipment that will be in use during the Exihibition. The majority of the cable used for the electrical installation is of stranded wire, and is the equivalent of 2233 miles or ordinary house wiring. The electrical equipment would be capable of servicing a city with a population of 25,000. At night, the great flood of multicoloured light which will drench the buildings will be visible for miles. Light, colour and water all play their part in creating a dazzling spectacle at night. The reflection of the acres of coloured light in the four great lagoons in the grounds will make a sight of rare beauty, but the climax will be gained by the use of lighting and spouting water in the centred fountain. Its main jet shoots 50 feet into the air, and falls down a cascade of colour to the pool below, which is translucent with concealed lights. There will be 12 water combinations for the fountain with its rings of smaller jets, and 11 different colour combinations, the total water and light changes numbering 132.
