YOUNG PADDON=NGAWIRI TE RAPA ACTIVITY SEVERAL HORSES SCHOOLED The going, some 50 feet out from the rails on the course proper, was in excellent order at Te Rapa this morning when a somewhat restricted programme was observed by horses claiming engagements at the approaching Ohinemuri meeting at Paeroa. The best effort of the morning was a smart half-mile by Young Paddon and Ngawiri. Gascvne (J. Mclnally) and British Sovereign (Watson) were associated over a round, British Sovereign doing the better of the pair at the completion of the effort in 2.18, time on which both could have improved. Master Brierly (C. L. Goulsbro) was finishing on to account for Saint Musk (J.Mclnally) over the concluding stages of a round in 2.13 4-ss. The initial half-mile was run in 58 l-ss, and Master Brierly was travelling well within himself throughout. The Inflation Lily, Lady Bloater (Brown) and Lord Warden filly (J. Mclnally) dashed over two furlongs along the back in 25 2-ss. Diversity Over Five Diversity (Ensor) was clear of Australian Star (McLaughlin) over the deciding stages of five furlongs in 1.9, Lhe first half-mile occupying 55 2-ss. Diversity, a member of A. C. Jones’ string, bas been making good progress of late and should strip well when required to race. Miss Bridge (Taylor), assisted over the first three furlongs by Flashing Spear (Amunsden), ran to Lhe halfmile in 55is. The best half-mile of the morning by far was that of Young Paddon (J. Mclnally) and Ngawiri (Ensor), who were practically on terms in 52 l-ss, the first three furlongs being cut out in 37 3-ss. Both shaped impressively and appear to be on the upgrade again. Young Paddon has been undergoing a course of schooling of late and the treatment appears to be proving beneficial. Manerloo (J. Mclnally) and Trig Station (G. L. Goulsbro) ran to the half-mile in 54 l-ss, the Initial three furlongs in 38 4-ss. Members of A. J. Julian’s team, Royal Bachelor, Mayfair, Lady Bambury and the two-year-old Marshal Hall, were restricted to strong pace tasks. Iskra (Gaylor) and Mio General© (O. Mclnally) were associated over two flights of hurdles and got through their task satisfactorily. Rothoon (C. L. Goulsbro) and Mio Fratollo (Amunsden) went out to jump four hurdles, the latter pulling out after negotiating the second owing to his stirrup gear snapping. Rothoon continued on alone and managed his work satisfactrily althougn he appeared to get in rather closely to the last obstacle. Serviceable work was done by a sister to Foxmond. Flying Eagle beat Bulwark by a length over live furlongs in 1.55. Though the weather was fine Tor training at Ellerslie this morning a very cold wind made matters rather unpleasant. The No. 2 grass was open Tor fast work and the going was in Ilrst-rate order. Some smart trials were recorded, the best being those of Night Beam over three *urflcmgi6, and Mon Acre and LlaudalT over four, while Francis Drake and Valmint put up good efforts over a round. Silver Quex, arter covering her first two Turlongs in 2 5 4-5, was running on at the end or live In 1.4 3-5. Waitarma reeled off half-a-mile in 50 4-5, after running her first furlong in 12 4-ss. The Poland Cup candidate Valmint traversed a round in 1.4 4. Whenua came home with him over the last six furlongs but Valmint heat him, running the latter distance in 1.17 2-5, Whenua taking i.is 2-5. Valmint tan his last hair-njile in 52s and although he carried a light weight it was a llrst-rate work-out.
