PETROL RATIONING

SEMI-COMMERCIAL VEHICLES NEEDS OF PLEASURE LAUNCHES (Bj Telegrapn.— Pro** Association) WELLINGTON, Friday Further Information regarding the issue of oil fuel to a number of different types of consumers was released by the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, today. "It has been reported to me," the Minister continued, "that some hardship has been caused to owners of light trucks who do not hold licences issued by district controllers for business or commercial purposes. These light trucks are use£ for private and pleasure purposes and I have arranged that the coupon system as applicable to private cars will be available for those coming in this class. Consideration On Merita "Certain owners ef light trucks who hold licences for petrol for commercial use to a certain exleLt use their vehicles for private running. I have arranged that upon application being made these cases will he considered on their merits and where justified coupons will be issued. 1 woutd point out that this does not apply to heavy lorries carrying ‘H’ plates. ‘The case for a certain amount of petrol for pleasure launches has also been brought to my notice," said the Minister. "Instructions have been issued to district controllers to make available to launch owners a reasonable amount of petrol for the duration of the season. On making application launch owners will, of course, submit evidence of their ownership." HAMILTON OOUPONS MORE THAN 1900 ISSUED TO DATE Up till yesterday, 1912 coupons connected w r ith the supply of 10 gallons of petrol a month to private owners, had been issued to motorists and motor-cyclists from the iiarmlum oil fuel depot in Knox Street. Coupons were first available on September 15, when from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. 1300 were issued. Since then a considerably reduced staff has handled a f«‘r number of applications. As there are more than 4000 private cars registered in Hamilton it is evident from the number of coupons applied for ttiat many owners are either restricting the use of their vehicles or, in the case of fanners, have sufficient petrol by special licence without applying for the allowance for private purposes. Compared wjllj the previous Friday. Hie Knox Street depot was comparatively quiet yesterday.
