Some 4uo pilots, 150 observers and 40 other officers served in the Australian flying corps. Seventy-eight were killed, 68 wounded and 33 taken prisoner. Sixty of their machines were destroyed by enemy action, Dut they destroyed no fewer than 276 enemy machines and drove down 251.
