Competition was fairly steady throughout and fair values were paid. Quotations: — Friesian heifers close to profit £9 10s to £lO 10s, others £5 5s to £7 10s, Jersey dairy cows close to profit £8 15s to £9 15s, later calvers £6 10s to £7 15s, others £5 to £6. HIKUTAIA VALUES The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report that at Uieir fortnightly Hikutaia stock sale on Thursday a medium yarding of fat and boner cows came forward and met with steady competition, values remaining firm at late quotations. Fat Jersey cows sold at £6 10s to £7, heavy boners £3 15s to £4 3s, medium £3 to £3 10s. light 30s to £2 15s, Jersey heifers in milk to £7, small springing heifers to £4 ss. AUSTRALIAN PRODUCE SYDNEY, September 23 The wheat market discloses a hardening tendency. Sellers are holding off in expectation of an important announcement from the Pool Control Committee. Contracts are being made around 2s 9d and 3s 4d a bushel, all charges paid. Flour is quoted at £l2 15s a ton; bran and pollard, £4 10s: potatoes, Tasmanian, £2l; others, £l9; onions, Egyptian, £25; New Zealand and Japanese, to £27; maize, yellow, 4s 3d a bushel; white, 4s sd.
