AMBERS WINS

LIGHT WEIGHT TITLE A GRUELLING BRAWL ARMSTRONG BEATEN (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrignt) NEW YORK, August 22 Beating the negro boxer Henry Armstrong on points after 15 rounds of wild slugging, Lou Ambers tonight regained the light-weight championship of the world. Armstrong was penalised in five rounds for hitting low. An attendance of 35,000 saw one of the most gruelling brawls ever staged in New York. Blood flowed freely from both boxers long before the finish. There were no knock-downs. Although Ambers put up a ijreat two-listed fight, it is doubtful whether ho would have become the first man in history to recapture the lightweight crown from the man who took it from him, if Armstrong had not been penalised for fouls in the second, fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh rounds. The men were in perfect shape when they were weighed in, Armstrong being 9st. 91b., and Ambers 9st. 841 b. They greeted each other cordially. Sensational Rumours Rumours are current that the fight was fixed at a shortened price on Ambers. The evening newspapers igeneraily discount the talk that it was arranged for Ambers to regain the championship. The New York World Telegram comments that most of the rumours are inspired by Edward Mead, Armstrong’s manager, who is disturbed by reports of Harlem betting against the negro champion. Armstrong's manager alleged that the title was stolen. He asserted that one of the boxing commissioners stated before the fight that Armstrong would lose in six rounds on fouls. He said he was asking the Governor to investigate the Commission. Armstrong complained that Ambers continually stuck his thumbs in his eyes. Ambers’ manager announced that he was not claiming the welter-weight title. Eddie Walker, one of Armstrong's advisers, prevented an attempt to serve the champion with a judgment for 2752 dollars, obtained in 1930.
