GOVERNMENT POLICY CRIPPLING BUSINESS TIME TO TAKE A STAND “TALK A LOT BUT NO ACTION j “It appears as if we cannot go on for long under the present administration if the Government’s policy is going to be pursued for any length of time. I do not think they can see ahead ' for more than a week, but no business can survive without efficient planning," said the Mayor of Hamilton, Mr H. D. Caro, at the annual meeting of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce last night, when making a strong appeal for the organisation of business interests in New Zealand to combat restrictions on business. “In these anxious and troublesome times that we are going through I i think it is right to make an appeal that we should all co-operate. All businessmen should be here at this meeting tonight, but I am surprised that there is not a bigger attendance. All our worries would hr- minimised if we would only co-operate.
MR H. D. CARO “If the Labour Party were cuked to put up with trying conditions similar to those which the business community has to today, would it sit down and Just take It?" asked Mr Caro. "I do not think so. Suggestion to Organise “Yet the business people talk a great deal but they are taking no definite and organised action. it is time they pulled together and took steps to form a strong body in each town in the Dominion to catch Hie ears of the Government and tell the masses something of the crippling conditions. "Any slops to secure redress that we are taking today," he added, “are merely individual. But Ihese restrictions brought about by Government legislation effect all business people. Today we have come to the stage where we must work in unison."
