POPE'S ENVOY FOR WARSAW GERMANY'S MILITARY MOVES HOPES FOR HITLER’S PLANS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received August 21, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, August 20 Count Ciano has unexpectedly returned to Rome from Albania. The Berlin correspondent of the Times says that the Italian Ambassador, Signor Attolico, visited Herr von Ribbentrop at Schlossfuschl, near Salzburg. Tho Vatican City correspondent of the British United Press asserts that the Pope has sent a special envoy to Warsaw. The Berlin correspondent T of the Times says the belief that Herr Hitler's plans will soon be executed gains strength from the large-scale military activities which unobstrusively continue. Every able-bodied man in East Prussia has been called up and farmhouses and carts have been commandeered. Women have left farms for the towns. The impressment of vehicles is proceeding elsewhere in Germany, ostensibly for the approaching motorised manoeuvres. BUDAPEST, August 20 The Budapest correspondent of the Times says confirmation is growing of the stories about the German military forces taking over Slovakia, and reports are plentiful concerning ammunition and barbed wire dumps, the camoutlaging of artillery already in position, and dhe requisitioning of schools for billets. Count Czaky has arrived at Graz on an unknown mission. It is known that Hungary Is anxious to preserve her neutrality in the event of war.
