DENIAL OF STORY
GERMAN MILITARY ACTIVITY SLOVAKIA AS BASE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright> LONDON, August 20 The Bratislava wireless station today denies having announced that Germany has taken military possession and attributes the story to oppositionist propaganda. The Slovak Minister in Warsaw declares no extended area has been garrisoned by Germans. Other sources hint that there are negotiations lor German command of the Slovak Army of 30,000, wun 300,000 reservists. In Berlin it was officially slated that German military activity in Slovakia was limited to the presence of a military mission in Bratislava and the occupation of the zone agreed upon last March. The sole official comment on the “occupation’’ was: “Developments are following the course mapped out when Slovakia arranged for and received German protection.” Officials declined to define the word “course.” A Polish spokesman in Warsaw said: “We have long known Slovakia would be a military base for operations against Poland, and we have provided for this contingency. Germany’s move is open proof of her intention to encircle Poland.” All is quiet in Slovakia, and Dr. Tiso, head of the State, is spending the week-end in the country, says a message from Bratislava.
