VIOLENT STORM
TELEPHONE BERVICE6 AFFECTED MOTORIST WANDERS DAZED (Special to Times) NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday An electrical storm of unusual violence struck Taranaki last night. It was accompanied by deafening peals i of thunder. Great confusion was caused at the ! telephone exchange by the effect of | the lightning on the shutters, which, under the old manual sjstem, fall when a subscriber rings. The lightning, however, continually forestalled subscribers and at every flash dozens of shutters opened. Extensive dislocations occurred in the telephone services in many districts, mainly along the coast. Several motor-cars had their electrical Circuits lused. Mr G. D. Smith was driving along the !ngle\vood-New Plymouth road when lightning struck near liis car, which stopped. He was found later wandering on the road In a dazed condition. I
