FRANCO’S AIR FORCE
MANY MODERN PLANES ITALIAN AND GERMAN GIFTS (Times Air Mail Service) LONDON, June 16 With the majority of German and Italian “volunteers” now out of Spain, Interior Minister Ramon Serrano Suner is beginning to tot up the benefits of their co-operation, reports the News Review. Still being received in large numbers are applications from officers of the Italian and German “volunteer” forces, for permission to take up permanent residence in Spain. Particularly numerous are applications from airmen. who have seemingly developed a passion for farming. Meantime, the German and Italian Government have bequeathed to Franco an excellent selection of modern ’planes. Present count shows 326 German and 248 Italian heavy bombers: 147 German and 318 Italian pursuit planes; 1 »’• German and 38 Italian ultra-modern rpid pursuit planes: 126 reconnaissance machines of various origin, and 130 other types now undergoing repair. This makes a total of 1369 war-
planes, and applications from Italians for permission to settle in Spain arc more than sufficient to man this air armada.
