Tlio purchase or two portable radios, one Tor the primary school, and the other f«ir the secondary school, has been approved by the Te Aroha District High School Committee, at a cost or £137 lus The committee decided to apply to the Auckland Education Board for a subsidy [ towards the cost RIFLE SHOOTING DEFENCE CLUB FORMED A meeting- convened by Mr G. W. Horn, Tor the purpose ol' forming- a Defence Rifle Club was attended by 50 enthusiasts. Among- those present were Mr C. F. Kennedy. president or the Morrinsville Rifle Club, who stressed the importance of rifle shooting, in times of national emergency the members or the rifle clubs would be of considerable value in the defence of New Zealand. Mr Horn stated that rifles and ammunition were available from the Defence Department at reduced rates. The actual shooting, he said, was chcao and quite within the reach of the average man. It was decided to form a dub and after 4 4 had joined us as members, the following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr G. H. Nicholls; president, Mr G. \V. Horn; vice-president, Mr E. M. Robertson; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. F. Longdell; auditor, Mr G. Gilchrist: committee, Messrs. G. de C. I’eele. C. F. Leonardo, C. nualtrough, R. E. WagstalT and Hall.
