OBITUARY
MR MARTIN ERKELL The death occurred in Hamilton today of Mr Martin Erkell, senior overseer in the telegraph engineer’s branch of the Post and Telegraph Department, Hamilton, aged 61 years. Mr Erkell was born at sea and was of Dutch parentage. Until he was 25 years of age lie followed a seafaring career, operating off the coast of the United States of America. Later he settled in the United States before removing to Australia. There lie became a naturalised British subject. About 1907 lie came to New Zealand and joined the Post and Telegraph Department in Wellington, afterwards serving in various capacities in Arapuni and Otaki before being appointed overseer in Napier, where he resided before and during the earthquake in 1931. In 1935 he came to Hamilton. The late Mr Erkell is survived by his wife, and one son, Mr Ira Erkell, oi Hamilton.
