READY FOR WAR
BRITAIN PREPARED GREAT PROGRESS MADE PROTECTING ALL AREAS (United Pres* Assn.—Elec Tel. Copyright) (Received June 16, 3.16 p.m.) LONDON, June 15 Lord Chatfield, speaking in the House of Lords, said Britain is well on the way to achieve readiness for war. The progress during the past four months has been highly reassuring and is steadily increasing. Dealing with civil defence, Lord Chatfield said the fighter squadrons are so disposed as to intercept the enemy at the earliest moment, and high altitude guns are protecting all important areas. An enormous number of searchlights has been installed and there is a balloon barrage to stop low-flying attacks. The light anti-aircraft guns are capable of a tremendous rate of fire, and there also is an intelligence system including an observer corps.
