DAMAGED BY STORM
10GO TELEPHONE LINES FOURTEEN MEN ON,REPAIRS Since the severe electrical storm at the week-end, about 14 linesmen have been engaged in rectifying affected telephones. Interruptions in their service were reported by 1058 subscribers, 324 of these being rural lines, 264 automatic party and 470 individual lines. In nearly every case the damage could be attributed to lines being struck by lightning or induced from other lines, resulting in fuses at the subscriber’s end or at the cable terminal being blown. Apart from the lines reported to be affected, linesmen have made practically a house to house inspection, but in few cases has the damage been considerable. Such widespread trouble has never before been experienced in Hamilton but, despite the magnitude of the task, the linesmen had repaired nearly all faults by to-day.
