“INTELLIGENT” DIVORCE
| JOAN CRAWFORD’S PETITION j FRIENDLY WITH HUSBAND (From a Correspondent) HOLLYWOOD, March 20 “I'hope I’m intelligent enough to be friendly with my husband." said Joan Crawford when Judge Sc-heinrnan today granted her a divorce from Franchot Tone. Previously the judge had refused to grant her a "proxy" divorce, insisting that she appear in court personally. In awarding the decree to-day. the judge remarked that the star owed an explanation to the Court and public for the publicity which accompanied her effort, to obtain a "proxy" divorce. Joan Crawford declared that Tone was mentally cruel to her. his anger and sullenness causing her nervousness. which interfered with her cinema work. Franchot Tone did not contest the suit.
