Egyptians, Persians, Greeks all helped to improve the manufacture of fine woollen fabrics. jZA LI • English rulers, during the Middle Ages, did their best to encourage the weaving industry in Great Britain . . . foreign weavers were introduced from the wool-wearing centres of Northern Europe . . . and the export of British Wool was prohibited. 4 EARLY SHOWINGS IN LONDON (From Our Own Correjpondent) LONDON. February 9 The International Wool Secretariat continues to encourage wholesalers, retailers and clothing manufacturers to develop still further interest In wool, and thereby to assist the industry as a whole. At Bush House there is a displav of specimens of the latest woollen fabrics for summer dress wear. Particularly dainty are the 100 per rent, wool voiles hearing the most attractive floral designs in soft art colourings, suitable for summer frocks. This material Is very pleasant to handle and should be equally pleasant to wear, because of its fine open mesh. It is a single-width material, and if not ahsolulely uncrushable, it Is certainly creaseresisting. The finest varieties are made In France. The texture of other pure-wool fabrics, which will be in demand for manv purposes, reminds one of the delaine's and nuns’ verting of our voulh. There are dress-all-woollens, too, of a canvas-like texture, printed in many designs and in many colourings. Wool laces are fascinating, particularly in while and parchment. and the patterns are such that coatees would be very successful worn with unpatterned wool-voile skirls. A great many of the colour designs are printed on the fabrics at Perivale, Middlesex. THERE IS NO DOUBT THIS SEASON WOOL SEASON * “N.Z. Herald’
