NO DEMAND FOR EWES

MORRINSVILLE SALE BACONERS IN GOOD DEMAND YEARLING HEIFERS SELL WELL An entry of some 1000 breeding • ewes at the Morrinsville stock sale yesterday met with no better demand than last week and there were no transactions under the hammer. However, some lines were traded privately after the sale, a draft of small inlamb two-tooth ewes changing hands at 14s 6d and a line of mixed aged sorts at 13s 6d. A feature of the sale was the satisfactory demand for yearling" Jersey heifers, 300 of which were penned. Steady competition was shown throughout the sale and a good clearance was effected, top lines making from £2 to £3 Bs. Two-year-old heifers, which had been running with the bull, also sold well, and from £6 to £7 5s was obtained for tops. Trade for Fat Cattle. The lighter entry of fat cattle consisted mainly of fat dairy sorts, which were in fair request, but with price changes, in buyers’ favour. Plain fat descriptions were traded from £4 to £5 17s 6d and killable from £3 to £3 17s Gd. A good entry of boners met with a steady trade and rates were firm on the lower quotations at other centres. Only a meagre entry of fat sheep was available. Prime wethers realised from 17s 6d to 21s Gd, with light lambs selling from 13s to 14s, and store sorts from 4s lOd to 8s sd. The moderate penning of fat pigs included a bigger proportion of good well-finished baconers, and for these competition was keen at the recently improved Frankton rates, top sorts realising 745. Porkers realised late rates, while store pigs were sometimes slightly firmer of sale. AUCTIONEERS’ QUOTATIONS The auctioneers quote as follows: Loan and Mercantile Agency, Co., Ltd.
