ESTIMATES FOR NEW YEAR SALARY INCREASES PROVIDED The actual capital payments made by the Waikato Hospital Board for the year 1938-39 was £8095. 8s ild, £645 9s lid less than tlie estimated expenditure. The estimated capital payment of £11,134 for the year 193940 makes provision for a loan repayment of £3465, Ihe loan repayment for 1938- being £3149 8s lOd. The coming year’s estimates provide for considerable new equipment, among the principal items being £9OO for kitchen improvements and £750 for the provision of additional fire escapes. The actual maintenance receipts from April 1, 1938, to March 31, 1939, amounted to £133,291 ißs Od, £13,664 16s 8d more than the estimated receipts. The estimated receipts for 1939- total £164,8G3 6s 9d. Grants to medical association amounted to £1321 Is 3d, while amounts paid to other boards totalled £10,294 12s lOd. Interest on loans took £3227 17s sd, while the National Provident Fund accounted for £1450 2s 4d. Rise in Wages The general increase in wages is indicated by the estimates. The actual payment for salaries and wages of £12,407 18s 9d was £2007 18s 9d in excess of the estimated payment. Provision for further increases in salaries and wages is provided in the estimates for 1939-40, a total of £13.500 being the estimated payment in this connection, an increase of £3IOO on the estimated expenditure for 193839. Patients’ fees at the Waikato Hospital amounted to £25,380 lGs 9d during the last financial year, a deficiency of £2619 3s 3d on the estimated Amount., and they are estimated to yield £24,000 during the coming year. The receipts from the Campbell-John-stone Maternity Ward amounted to £1216 Is 4d.-which was £66 Is 4d more than the estimate. At the Rotorua. Te Kuiti and Kawhia Hospitals the actual receipts were n excess of the estimated receipts, being £59 i Is 9d in the case of the Rotorua Hospital. At the Matamata Hospital. however, the actual receipts of £1 440 7s were £9 13s less than Ihe estimates. ,
