BRITISH TRADE

WORK OF FEDERATION HELP FOR GOVERNMENT N.Z. POLICY DISLIKED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received April 20, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, April 19 Mr Peter Bennett has been re-elected president of the Federation of British industries.

The annual report stated that events had checked the upward tendency in trade. In the event of aggression industrialists would rally to the Government and would not shrink, whatever might be necessary to protect liberty.

Far-reaching arrangements have been made to enable the continuance of civil and industrial life in any emergency. The measures for security are further advanced than pessimists suggested.

The Federation realised the importance of Empire trade. It was difficult to reconcile the industrial aspirations of the different members in the British Commonwealth of nations. They might not be content with the new Indian agreement and might not like New Zealand's policy, but they realised that the Empire was the world’s greatest trading entity, and believed it to be to the advantage of eacli part that mutual trade should be developed to the utmost.
