Rotary Conference At the luncheon of the Wellington Rotary Club this week it was announced that an All-Australian Rotary Conference was to be held in Sydney from September 4 to 8.

Infantile Paralysis Two cases of infantile paralysis have been admitted to the Wellington Hospital. The patients are boys aged 8 and 7. Though there is slight paralysis in both cases, their condition is not considered serious. Sheepfarmers’ Position A resolution calling upon the Government to give immediate assistance to the sheepfarming industry and advocating a compensated price to enable the farmer to meet increased costs was carried at a meeting of the Auckland Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union yesterday.

Hockin were appointed to represent the board at a conference with representatives of the Health Department at Rotorua conerning the site of a modern hospital at Rotorua.

School Milk Reduced Because of the drop in the production of milk owing to the dry spell it has been necessary to reduce the quantity of milk normally supplied to Wellington schools. Milk is to be distributed on two days this week and three days next week, after which the authorities hope to be able to reinstate regular supplies. Break in Banking Business A rather unusual break in banking business occurs in New Zealand next week. St. George’s Day falls on Sunday, but as the legislation requires that the holiday shall be observed on the following Monday banks will not be open on that day. Tuesday being Anzac Day all business is suspended throughout the country, so that there is 4 break in banking from Saturday morning until the following Wednesday.

Scheme 13 Workers Thirty men over 60 years of age employed in the works department of the Christchurch City Council under the No. 13 scheme, will cease work with the department at the end of this week. These men will in future receive a pension under the Social Security Act. The remainder of the men employed under the scheme are to be carried on pending further advice from ‘the department.

Accident Victims’ Condition Two of the five persons injured in the serious motor smash near Huntly on Easter Saturday in which three passengers were killed, are still inmates of the Waikato Hospital.
