COLOURED GLOVES POPULAR
Simplicity is the dominating feature of the new autumn gloves both for day and evening wear. Good quality skins, excellent cut, and lovely colourings speak for themselves and need no frivolous etceteras to recommend them. Any decoration there may be tends towards severity, taking the form of a simple design on the back or cuff in a second tones It may be a threaded lacing, a few rows ol' slotted ribbon, white darts on dark kid running from the border of the gauntlet to the base of the lingers, or silk dots and crosses to break the surface. There is also a good deal of handstitchery in bright, colours outlining the cuff, lingers, and thumb hole. Leather gauntlet gloves may be slit to the wrist where a patent leather how in a different colour adds a note of interest. matching the handbag and buttonhole. The cape glove, in wine colour, will be much in evidence, with a little slit at the wrist and discreet stitching on the back. The suede back with kid palm continues to be popular l’or town wear; also the velveteen with wide gauntlet in new, subdued colours, For wear with short sleeves, a perfectly plain, elbow-length glove in French suede is favoured. For sport and country wear there is nothing to take the place of the hand-stitched cape and hogskin glove which is both smart and practical. A new colour in hogskin is a warm, brown tan which will be seen everywhere. There is also a demand for kid palms and gauntlets in conjunction with hand-knitted back. Some of the latest hogskin gloves are outlined in a darker shade, giving the impression of having been heavily pencilled round the edges. A sober note prevails in the afternoon glove section, the whole movement being towards simplicity and away from the frivolous. The long, black glove, however, may be relieved . by slight decoration, such as a group of circles in gold kid piping round the wrist in imitation of bracelets.
