CAMBRIDGE BAND
ANNUAL MEETING VERY SUCCESSFUL YEAR (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Wednesday. The attendance at the annual meeting or the Cambridge Municipal Band last evening was the largest lor years, over 5 0 citizens and bandsmen being present and tbe Mayor, Mr Edgar James, who presided, stated that the indications were Tor another successful year. Mr James congratulated the bandmaster, Mr W. Meanie, and band members on the results achieved during the past 12 months Although little contest work had been undertaken, the band had given good service at many functions. A welcome was extended to a party representing the Ngaruawahia Band, with which Cambridge had been associated at the recent South Auckland contest, and also members of the Putaruru Band. The report and balance-sheet were approved and satisfaction was expressed that the band had improved its position b> approximately £4 0, A debit of £3Q w£s converted into a credit of £lO on the general account, while the reserve fund had also been added to. Election of Officer* The election of officers resulted: —Patron, Mr W. S. Goosman, M.P.; president. Mr Edgar James; vice-presidents, Messrs. B. H. P. Bishop, T. Worthing, V. G. Boulton, M. Johnson, J. Edwards, R. Simpson; secretary, Mr F. Hall; treasurer, Mr W White; citizen?/ representatives, Messrs, J. Conder and R. Cubis; auditor, Mr Frank T. Ray. Enthusiastic Members Further indication of the enthusiasm of members was shown when a medal, donated by Mr H. Ferguson, was presented. Band-sergeant C. kelly stated that 49 practices had been held and two members. Bandsmen T. Wells and G. Kelly, had tied with 4 4 attendance marks, and Bandmaster Meanie presented the additional medal. There were 25 members and tlie average attendance had been 19.50. Good records had also been put up by Bandsmen G. Mowat, R. Gibbons, S. Arnold, B. Smith and D. Buckingham. Another pleasing function was the presentation of a medal also donated by Mt H. Ferguson, for the most improved player. Bandmaster Meanie had no hesitation in giving his decision in favour of Bandsman Trevor Mowatt. It had been by diligence and hard work that Bandsman Mowat had achieved success, said Mr Meanie, which resulted in his winning the open soprano solo at the recent contest. Thanks to the Cambridge members for 1 the support which had enabled N'garuawahia to win the C grade championship at the contest, were extended by Mr W Forrest, the Ngaruawahia bandmaster. Mr A. Brown, of the Putaruru Band, also spoke or the happy relations which had existed between Cambridge and Putaruru. Bandmaster’s Report A report on the activities of the year was presented by Bandmaster Meanie. He stated that a good membership had been maintained and a number of young players were becoming useful bandsmen. Visits had been paid t<> Ngaruawahia and Putaruru, while the bands from these towns had returned to assist at programmes in Cambridge. Band Officials The bandsmen held a meeting later when the following officers were elected: Drum major. Mr T. Keilly: sergeant, Mr C. Kelly; corporal. Mr B. smith; lance-corporal, Mr T. Mowat; librarians, Messrs. K. Mites (chief), G. Mowat and B. Buckingham; i band representatives on committee, Messrs. ; M. Cubis. Simpson, R. Mites, T. Mowat I and A. Colombu.-.
