(WAY MEETING PROGRAMME STAKES INCREASED TO £1375 BETTER TRAINING FACILITIES The executive committee of the Waikato Trotting Club last evening drew up the proposed programme for the May meeting providing increased prize money of £2OO. bringing the total allocation to £1375. Several new features ere incorporated in the comprehensive programme, which provides for a fast class sprint, to be called the Fraser Smith Handicap, and a £3OO two-mile race, the 11. W. Burch Handicap, to which will be also attached a £23 trophy. Both Mr Burch and Mr Fraser Smith were staunch supporters of the club over a period of years and it is to mark their valued association with the sport in the Waikato that the principal events at the meeting are being called after them. The first race on the programme will be for trotters (limit 3.49) carrying a stake of £135. The maiden pacers .limit 3.5) have been similarly catered for, while the mile and a-half (limit 3.38) will be worth £145. The big race (limit 4.38; and the sprint (limit 2.47) will be worth £3OO and £225 respectively, while the open trotters' event (limit 4.57) and the Rukuhia Handicap (limit 4.46) carry prize money of £l5O in each case. The concluding event will be a saddle race limit 2.20 for which provision of £145 has been made. Training Facilities Following negotiations with the A. and P. Association improved training facilities ‘are to be made available at Claudelands. Following discussion it was dec:dcd to instruct the club's engineer, Mr H. G. Howell, to prepare plans for increased inside gras.* 1 raining facilities to submit to the A. and 1\ Association for approval. It is hoped that with these facilities adequate training tracks for all periods of the year will be available. In the absence of the president. Mr K. T. Reid. Mr 11.
