REFUSE COLLECTION

(To the Editor) Sir,—His Worship the Mayor recently circularised householders informing them that a new contract had been entered into for the removal of refuse from bouses within the borough. Regarding the handling of such refuse tins, the circular stated: "The contractor is required to pick up the refuse at or near the back doors of residences and to leave the refuse tin where he finds it.”

I noticed a letter in your column about a fortnight ago drawing attention to the fact that, in the first week of the new order the contractor was not doing all that was required of him. My own experience has been Wiat in the three weeks which have elapsed since the contract has been operating 1 have had to retrieve my garbage tin from my front entrance; only once has the refuse remover returned it to the proper place. I do not know whether my experience has been unique: if it, is general the borough authorities should be asked to take action.—l am, etc., H.E. Claudelands. April 17.
