SALE OF POPPIES
APPEAL IN HAMILTON READY RESPONSE MADE The annual appeal on behalf of disabled returned soldiers was made in Hamilton to-day when sellers of the symbolic red poppies were stationed in Victoria Street. A steady response was met by the stall-holders who worked under the supervision of Mrs D. I. Gate and Mrs T. Parker. Business people on their way to work were cheerful, early givers, no doubt sympathising with the stallholders in the unpleasant conditions they experienced in the chill of the heavy fog. With the influx of farmers for sale day, business at the stalls became brisker and red buttonholes were the order among the throng of Victoria Street shoppers. Donation of £IOO A donation of £IOO was received to-day by Mr H. C. M. Norris, secretary of the Waikato Returned Soldiers’ Association, from Mr F. W. Burley, of Hamilton. Similar gifts have been made by Mr Burley over a number of years.
