NGARUAWAHIA WEDDING

THORPE—LEWIS The marriage was solemnised at the Methodist Church, Ngaruawahia, on the morning of Saturday, April 8, between Catherine Ellen, eldest daughter of Captain and Mrs D. L. Lewis, of the Waikato Military Camp, Ngaruawahia, and Wilfred Mathias, younger son of Mr and Mrs H. M. Thorpe, of Princes Street, Ngaruawahia. The Rev. J. Churchill, Huntly’, was the officiating minister, and Mr C. Stafford, Iluntly, presided at the organ. The church had been beautifully arranged with bowls of lilies and maidenhair fern. The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore a beautiful gown of ivory satin cut on classical lines. The heart-shaped neckline was caught at each side with a spray of orange blossom ,and the bodice was fully gathered. Tiny satin buttons fiom the neckline to the train finished the back. The skirt was slim-fltting to the knees, flaring to form a train, which was caught in three places with sprays of orange blossom. An embroidered tulle veil feli from a halo of orange blossom and lilies to form a second train, and she carried a bouquet of white cactus dahlias, roses and maidenhair fern. She was attended by her two sisters, Miss Gwen Lewis and Miss Olwyn Lewis, as bridesmaids. They wore similar frocks of soft green georgette, the very full skirts being finished at the waistline with smocking of apricot shade. The sleeves were very full, being similarly smocked. The square necklines were finished with green velvet, and sashes of georgette, trimmed with apricot and green velvet encircled the waistlines. Juliet caps of taffeta and georgette, with apricotshaded flowers were worn, and they carried bouquets of apricot carnations, begonias, dahlias and maidenhair fern. , Mr Malcolm Quintal was best man and Mr Athol Thorpe was groomsman. The Reception The Masonic Hall, where the reception was held after the ceremony, had

been artistically arranged with flowers in shades of ivory and apricot. Mrs D. L. Lewis received the guests wearing a frock of valley green corded silk with gold trimmings. She wore a matching hat and carried a posy of autumn-shaded flowers. Mrs 11. Thorpe was wearing a navy blue ensemble of wool georgette with navy hat and she carried a posy of cycla-men-shaded flowers. When Mr and Mrs W. M. Thorpe left by car for the honeymoon, the bride travelled wearing an ensemble of mulberry romaine with gold braid trimmings and matching accessories. They will make their home in Ngaruawahia.
