5/- FOR A TALE
EXTRA FINE IMPOSED NEW ANGLE ON LICENSES “I will fine you five shillings extra for telling a tale like that,” said Mr S. L. Paterson. S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, to-day in reply to an explanation offered by a young man which caused amusement bir.ong officials and members of the 1 üblic present. The defendant was Arthur Albert Baldock who told the Court that he was asked after a minor accident to produce his license. He went to the Borough Council with a license which was last year’s. On being told that the license was out of date he was surprised for he was of the opinion that when a license to drive a car was secured it remained operative as long as the car was on the road. Defendant was convicted and fined 10s and costs.
