£138,000 STREETS LOAN TOWN PLANNING SUGGESTED MINOR PROPOSALS APPROVED By decision of the Local Government Loans Board, the application of the Hairvilton Borough Council for sanction to the holding of a poll on the proposal to raise a loan of £138,000 lor street works in the borough has been referred back to the council for further consideration. Advice to this effect was received at the meeting of the council last evening from the secretary to the board who stated that the‘board was not satisfied that the expenditure proposed on many of the streets was warranted, leaving regard to the density of the traffic in these streets. “The board suggests,” the letter added, “that in the interests of the borough the council should formulate and put into operation a town-plan-ning scheme and then give further consideration to the application in tht> light of the information derived from the institution of such a scheme.” Minor Loan Proposals At the same time, advice was received from the board to the effect that sanction had been granted for the submission to a poll of ratepayers of the £OSOO Conveniences Loan, 1939, and the £IO,OOO Sewer Drainage Loan, 1939, proposals. Attention was drawn by the board to the fact that in addition to the normal conditions of the Conveniences Loan it was provided that the work was not to be commenced until final plans and specifications had been approved by’ the Public Works Department. The term of each of the minor loans is 30 years and the maximum rate of interest 3J per cent. On the motion of the Mayor, Mr H. D. Caro, the hoard’s letter dealing with the streets loan proposal was referred to the works committee for a further report.
