Poppy Day Appeal Application was made by the Waikato Returned Soldiers’ Association at the meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last evening for permission to hold the annual Poppy Day appeal on April 18 this year. Permission was granted. Lake Shore Improvements Gratification at the move to improve the frontage of the Hamilton Lake at the Frankton end of Domain Drive was expressed by Mr F. C. House, at the meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last evening. He suggested that at some future date the council might well consider the improvement of access from Killarney Road. Ruakiwi Road Lighting Following the receipt of complaints regarding the inadequacy 0 f the streetlighting provided in Ruakiwi Road, between Pembroke, and Clarence Streets, the Hamilton Borough Council last evening resolved, on the motion of the Mayor, Air 11. D. Caro, to arrange for the installation of an additional lamp near the main entrance to the Lake Domain grounds. Parking in Anglesea Street At last evening’s meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council, the chief traffic inspector, Mr W. E. Nicholson, was instructed to interview the superintendent of the Hamilton Fire Brigade, Mr A. Craig, in regard to the prohibition of car parking in Anglesea Street, opposite the fire station. It was decided to place appropriate signs where these were necessary. Light Shower in Hamilton. A very light shower of rain was experienced in Hamilton late last evening but the amount was not sufficient to give a reading on the rain gauge. Heavy clouds formed up shortly after dark but after the shower, which lasted for a few minutes only, the skies became clearer and the temperature dropped appreciably. Light rain fell at Auckland yesterday, .09in. being recorded there.

Transport of Spoil Reporting to the Hamilton Borough Council last evening, l'or the Garden Place committee, the Mayor, Mr H. D. Caro, stated that in regard to the complaints made about the transport of spoil from Garden Place along Anglesea Street, the committee had decided to advise those residents complaining that the borough engineer would do what was possible to minimise the trouble.

Oil Investigations A large area of land In the Murchison district has been taken up by an oil prospecting company and geophysical surveys are being carried out. Other areas also reserved for development are in Taranaki and the east coast of the North Island. An early beginning of drilling on the West Coast was expected, said the Minister of Mines, the Hon. P. C. Webb, last evening, when he reviewed progress of oil discovery efforts in New Zealand.

Wore Bicycle Racks “I think a few more of these bicycle racks could be erected in Victoria Street as they would relieve the work of the traffic inspectors and also reduce congestion near the approaches to the pedestrian crossings,” commented the deputy-Mayor, Air F. Findlay, at a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last evening, when it was decided to construct four additional racks, three to be placed in Victoria Street and one at Frankton.
