BAND CONTEST
EASTER ATTRACTION 300 PLAYERS IX HAMILTON Major event in Hamilton during the Easter week-end will be the grand contest for B and C grade bands organised by the South Auckland Band Union at Die Claudelands Showgrounds on Saturday, Sunday ami Monday. An attractive programme has been arranged featuring selections, solos and quicksteps and, with an ideal venue for such an event, the oonlest should be outstanding. There is something about a ban.l that is different. To some the appeal lies in the marching which, with well-trained hands, is an inspiring sight, or perhaps it is the gay uniforms that attract, while some ilnd most appeal in the class of music they give. Three hundred bandsmen on parade will be a sight seidom witnessed in Hamilton. Fourteen bands will march, and with some brilliant instrumentalists among them the bandsmen will give an appealing display in marching, selections and solos. One of the highlights will be the parade of massed bands from Ward Street to the showgrounds on Sunday afternoon. Most spectacular feature will be the Easter Monday session at the showgrounds when the quickstep competitions will he held. Champion Cornet Solos During Die contest massed hands will play under the baton of Die adjudicator, Mr it. J. Estall, of Christchurch. Another feature will lie the cornet solos which will be presented at Ihe runday sessions hv Mr Allan Morton, of the . Dibilee Institute for the Blind Band, who was twice ehanipino of New Zealand. (hi Easter Saturday Die events wi'i open with band selections in Die afternoon and the open solo competitions in Die evening. Un Sunday Die hymn tests wit! be held at Die showgrounds, with the hoys’ solos occupying Die evening session. Monday’s programnn will he devoted to the quicksteps' in Die afternoon, with quartettes and trios in the evening.
