BOROUGH EXPENDITURE
CALLS ON PUBLIC TRUSTEE STREET LIGHTING AND CABLES In order to provide the funds necessary to replace the 430-230 volt overhead secondary distribution feeders serving that portion of the Hamilton business area from the railway line northward, equipment which is obsolete and incapable of carrying the rapidly increasing load, with underground cables, the Hamilton Borough Council last evening decided, on the recommendation of the trading and finance committee, to call upon the Public Trustee, as Depreciation Fund Commissioner, to pay to the council on September 30, 1939, £7OOO to meet the expense involved in this work, which is estimated to cost £7066. On the recommendation of the committee, the council also decided to call upon the Public Trustee to find on the same date £2500 of the total cost of £4500 for the improvement of street lighting from No. 1 Bridge to the Traffic Bridge, the present system being obsolete. The council fi"*ther decided lo call upon the Public Trustee in his capacity as Reserve Fund Commissioner in connection with the raising of funds for laying underground cables in Garden Place, providing new* transformer stations and equipment there and at the corner of Knox and Anglesea Streets, the Public Trustee to be called on for the following sums toward the estimated total cost of £l4600:—£1800 on September 30, 1939; £3700 on March 30, 1940; £2OOO on June 30, 1940; and £2OOO on September 30, 1940.
