Sir Harry and Lady Batterbee left London on Thursday for New Zealand. where Sir Harry has been appointed High Commissioner for Britain. Archdeacon H. Raiti, of Huntly, was in Hamilton to-day. Mr J. Bonham, physical director of the Auckland Y.M.C.A., is in Hamilton. Mr C. A. Barrell. M.P. for Hamilton, left last evening for Wellington and will visit the West Coast of the South Island. Mr John Farrell, representing J. C. Williamson Theatres, Limited, is in Hamilton completing arrangements for the appearance here of the Covent Garden Russian Ballet. Mr A. H. McSkimming, of Auckland. has been appointed to adjudicate in the elocutionary and one-act play sections at the Christchurch Competitions Festival in May. Dr. Edouard Benes, ex-President of Czechoslovakia, has left London for the United States. lie will deliver lectures at the Chicago University.— London cable. Mr W. D. Battershill, Chief Secretary in Palestine, has been appointed Governor and Commander-in-Chief in Cyprus in succession to Sir Richmond Palmer, who is retiring. Mr R. Skeet. of Hamilton, captain of the Waikato cricket team, left yesterday for Auckland, where he is representing the Auckland Plunket Shield team in the match against Wellington to-day. Messrs R. Mr John Roberts, of Christchurch, in view' of the large support promised him, is considered certain to he selected as the workers’ representative to attend the next International Labour Conference at Geneva in June.
